Stop motion storytelling never gets old. Check out this short film by motion graphics professional Stefan Nadelman. Using common household food products he tells an abridged version of American history from WWII to present day. It’ll make you look at your lunch in a very different way. If you have some time, watch Nadelman’s 2007 reel, a nice blend of documentary + fiction work.

Good magazine is GREAT!! Another one of our favorite mags on our coffee table. Their initiative is to provide “a platform for the ideas, people, and businesses that are driving change in the world.”

On their site they have a selection of short docs that cover stories about The Motorcycle Doctors in Rwanda to Internet Porn and the rise of Al Jazeera. Like their magazine, they use graphics and animation in these shorts to visually translate information into digestible bites.

Give the mag and site a once over. You won’t be disappointed and you might learn a thing or two.

Fast Company is a one of the most progressive business mags out on the shelves today. We came across an article written on Motion Theory, a motion design house out of Venice, CA. They have created some of the most unique and sophisticated spots today such as the unforgettable Hewlett-Packard “Hands” ads.

It’s a great read and very inspiring. We will leave you with a quote from the article, “If you look at the grassroots of the most influential work being done out there now, it’s short films, commercials, and music videos”.

We agree!

Three Legged Legs

Three Legged Legs is an animation company out of California that create some really FUN work from short films to commercial projects.

Check out their site, but especially their process work. They have concept work coupled with the final animations which we think is a great idea. You get to see landscape sketches, character designs and color palettes to establish the tone of a scene. It’s a good collection of curiosities. Now, if they would only put out a book and dvd.

Take a look at their short film created for GE called Samurai. One of our faves!!

The Making of the Making of a Movie is a New York Times audio slideshow with Michel Gondry discussing Sweding, production ideas and community on his new comedy, Be Kind Rewind.

Deitch Projects has an exhibition currently going on New York where visitors can create their own films. “About the project, Gondry states, “I don’t intend nor have the pretension to teach how to make films. Quite the contrary. I intend to prove that people can enjoy their time without being part of the commercial system and serving it. Ultimately, I am hoping to create a network of creativity and communication that is guaranteed to be free and independent from any commercial institution.”

BRAVO!! A nice slice of what goes on inside his head…Get Sweded!!
